I Will Go Gentle

I Will Go Gentle

by Raymond Weaver
(a Villanelle)
Remembering Dylan Thomas

I will go gentle into night,
Diana’s pale eye gives me rest.
Apollo’s eye is much too bright.

All imperfections, in his light,
Every secret, win his jest.
I will go gentle into night.

Shadows fail before his wild sight,
into where ere they nest;
Apollo’s eye is much too bright.

No stuff have they to stand and fight
But wait until day’s sure arrest
And so go gentle into the night.

Midnight dreams in sun take flight
Dreams take root in the shadows best.
Apollo’s eye is much to bright.

Tis on the moonbeams dreamers write
Dreams suckled from a goddess breast.
Apollo’s eye is much too bright;
I will go gentle into night.

About elrondsilvermaul

I never know what to say about myself. I let what I write try to speak as to who I am. I can only add, here, that I am 72, live in a nursing home, am twenty years a cancer survivor, and identify as a gay male. I intend to use this blog as storage for poems? written over the long years (and still being written). This does not preclude other uses.
