Russia-Olympics

It is very unlikely the IOC will abandon Sochi, Russia, as the place in which the Winter Olympics will be held. There are too many vested financial interests that would be upset by the move, and frankly, the Olympics are, more than anything else, about money. It there weren’t dollars to be made, there’d be no Olympics.

A general boycott of the games isn’t in the cards, either. Athletes are not political creatures. They would resent being asked to sacrifice their years of training, their dreams of personal immortality (however fleeting) for anything as vague as morality.

About elrondsilvermaul

I never know what to say about myself. I let what I write try to speak as to who I am. I can only add, here, that I am 72, live in a nursing home, am twenty years a cancer survivor, and identify as a gay male. I intend to use this blog as storage for poems? written over the long years (and still being written). This does not preclude other uses.

You would think it wouldn’t matter to the Russian Olympic contestants which way a person peed or shit or f___ed as long as they got a chance to test their skills against the opposing Olympians to try for the gold. To my way of thinking the Russians are trying to eliminate potential threatening contestants. Not very Olympic.

As for the gay issue in Russia, not very grown-up. A baby country testing her Nazi skills.

I hadn’t even considered that; you’re even more cynical than I am.
