It is very unlikely the IOC will abandon Sochi, Russia, as the place in which the Winter Olympics will be held. There are too many vested financial interests that would be upset by the move, and frankly, the Olympics are, more than anything else, about money. It there weren’t dollars to be made, there’d be no Olympics.
A general boycott of the games isn’t in the cards, either. Athletes are not political creatures. They would resent being asked to sacrifice their years of training, their dreams of personal immortality (however fleeting) for anything as vague as morality.
