The Break-up

The Break-up

I did not weep the day you left;
There was no time for tears.
I turned the mattress on our bed
before its time was near.

I swept your footprints from the floor,
your touch from every wall.
I cleaned the bathroom drains of hair
and scoured the shower stall.

I scrubbed your shadow from every space;
I worked at it till dawn.
Then I became as a willow tree,
For then you were truly gone.

About elrondsilvermaul

I never know what to say about myself. I let what I write try to speak as to who I am. I can only add, here, that I am 72, live in a nursing home, am twenty years a cancer survivor, and identify as a gay male. I intend to use this blog as storage for poems? written over the long years (and still being written). This does not preclude other uses.

    I too have cleaned when upset. Or i wonder if you simply wanted to erase his presence in an attempt to lesson your own pain.

    • Patches-   Thanks for your attention to Break-up.   Cleaning when upset helps me organize my thoughts and feelings about things.
