When it was announced that a housekeeping unit for what had once been the Chicago Public Library, was forming, he applied to be part of the Dewey Decimate Squad, Unit 900. That unit’s task was scouring the information contained within the books, magazines, microfiche, recordings, films and flag historical corrections that needed to be made. Someone who cared should be there to witness the death of civilization, he told his fellow presos.
